Dennie describes himself as being born with a pair of drumsticks in his hands.

“My earliest memories of beating on something are about age 4. My sister was in the high school band and her best friend was a drummer, her name was Sunny Meyers. Back in those days they had to buy their own instrument, so when Sunny graduated she gave me her marching snare drum. Wow! My first real drum at age 4!

“I was born with the God given talent to just hear and feel rhythm. I can only thank God for the ability He has blessed me with.

“I was playing close to what the high school drummers were playing in cadence and songs by the age of 5. I was in my first garage band in 7th grade. I did take formal music lessons, and played with the school band from 6th grade through my final high school years. I was always first chair and even had some scholarship offers to play for the likes of the Smithsonian Institute of Musical Arts to the University of Texas.

I was born and raised in the Church of Christ. So I have a very rich southern gospel accapella musical history. I do sing besides play drums, but I’m more comfortable with just backing vocals – not being a lead man.

I have since played in numerous venues with too many musical genres to even begin to explain. I have worked as a studio - session player for the past 15 years, worked in some theatrical productions playing drums, and been involved as a sound and light man. I’m always trying to learn something new – you can never learn to much!

In 2002 Dennie started the McMurrey Foundation, a non-profit 501c3 organization, set up through the National Heritage Foundation. Dennie’s oldest son, Jake, has Cerebral Palsy, which has really moved him into performing volunteer work. Dennie is often seen giving a smile and a pat on the back to special children. His son has changed his outlook on life dramatically, as has all four of his children. Jake, Kathy, Richard and Arron.

He has worked with several touring bands and was offered an opportunity to move to Nashville to work with Wright Music in 2002. Dennie has played with BMI musicians Richard Welch of Lone Horizon out of California, Ed Peyer of Born Twice out of the Victoria/Houston Texas area, ASCAP musicians Deek Moore out of Austin, TX, Ben Herndon of Corpus Christi, Texas, and Universal/MCA ASCAP recording artist, Bruce Buchel of Texas.

Dennie is definitely an entertainer; twirling or throwing sticks in the air and catching them in the rhythm and moment of the song. He is a rock solid drummer and makes a great compliment to any band, or group of musicians.

Some of Dennie's friends in "the business" include Chris Golden, the drummer for the Oak Ridge Boys, and William Golden’s son, making him a second generation Oak Ridge Boy. Smokey Wilson and Deek Moore, Coco Montoya, Maxx Cabello Jr., Taj Mahal, The Butanes, Jimi Smith. Freddy Fender,   Texas Tornados
Johnny Rodriguez, Steve Katz, JJ, Jazzy Blue, and Will Prines.  Keith Alexis of Tinman Jones is also helping in a lot of ways.

Influences: Neil Pert, first and foremost. Alex Van Halen. John Bonham. Peter Chriss.

Hobbies: Golf, Fishing, Hunting, Cooking, and yes playing drums.
